Chatting With Bill (2011)

“They could have come back as a nice little Chinese motor car or a spanner, and now they could be tractors again.”

Chatting With Bill is an ethnographic documentary providing an honest and rawly cut insight into the life of Bill Shanley, a born farmer and avid tractor collector.

The film was made to compliment a thesis in Documenting the Rural Way: Filmmaking Style, Practices and Ethics in Representing Rural Australia. Together the work was awarded First Class Honours at The Australian National University. Recently the film was short-listed for the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in the UK. Comments from the filmmaker can be read here.
